Busy in the Kitchen ... and YouTube

I'm busy in the kitchen today, I'm sorry there wasn't a blog post up first thing this morning, but there should be one tomorrow once I've finished what I'm making ... and cleared up all my mess.

In the meantime here's a really nice little YouTube film for you to watch over a cup of coffee, I love this one as it explains everything so well.

Back tomorrow.

  1. I'm sure you're making something tasty. It takes time to make good wholesome food doesn't it but worth the effort.

  2. I’m loving the YouTube films you’re finding for us, really does show what everyone had to cope with,
I’m shocked about the underweight cans of beans, think I will weigh the next can I open … and write to Heinz if it’s not spot on!
    Thank you for your blogs

    1. When you're on rations and they short-change you on your beans you just HAVE to do something about it don't you. :-)

  3. What a fascinating little film!
I grew up in Ireland where, being a neutral country, it was called The Emergency. Rationing was just as strict though; my older sister had her first banana at the age of nine and said it wasn't nearly as tasty as banana substitute which I believe was mashed turnip and banana essence.
The cooker shown in the film is the same as the one we had till my parents died around the turn of this century and the house was sold.

    1. Yes, but there were still some tragic losses still in Ireland, with their Merchant ships being torpedoed and some stray bombardments, but they stayed neutral throughout the war.

We had a cooker very similar to the one in the photograph when I was growing up. :-)

    1. Yes, I shared it last time I did a wartime ration challenge on my other blog. It's available on YouTube along with so many other really fascinating little films.
